I spent 15 years (1985-2000) studying Syria in general and the theme of Suriya al-Kubra (Greater Syria) in particular. Here are my writings on the latter topic:

• "Radical Politics and the Syrian Social Nationalist Party." International Journal of Middle East Studies. August 1988. A history of the small but influential Hizb al-Suri al-Qawmi al-Ijtima'i.
• Greater Syria The History of an Ambition. New York: Oxford University Press, 1990. Paperback edition: Oxford University Press, 1992. A scholarly study of the whole Greater Syria phenomenon from its nineteenth-century origins to the time of writing, showing the profound impact of this nationalism.

• "Is the Hatay/Alexandretta Problem Solved?" DanielPipes.org, January 10, 2005. Focuses on one tension resulting from Damascus's claims.
