Time to invent a new word: "alethophobia"Reader comment on item: Nine Errors in Three Pages Submitted by Malcolm (Israel), Jan 30, 2017 at 03:40 My proposal for a new word, "alethophobia," meaning "fear of the truth." Alethophobia is rampant today in the speech of academics, politicians and journalists about Islamist terrorism and about sharia-inspired repression of women, non-Muslim minorities, modern-oriented Muslims, etc. Above all, alethophobia characterizes much writing on "Islamophobia." But alethophobia is not confined to Islam; it has endless examples in every area of human life, since it is an almost universal human phenomenon. The examples in speech about Islam are merely egregious. I think that alethophobia will prove to be a very useful label for identifying the phenomenon. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes. Original writing only, please. Comments are screened and in some cases edited before posting. Reasoned disagreement is welcome but not comments that are scurrilous, off-topic, commercial, disparaging religions, or otherwise inappropriate. For complete regulations, see the "Guidelines for Reader Comments". Daniel Pipes replies: The word does exist and is even the title of a novel: https://www.amazon.com/Alethophobia-Manoucher-Parvin/dp/1588140474 Reader comments (16) on this item
