Caryle Murphy, in "Portraits from a Wounded Land" [April 7], describes the sandbox map on the first floor of a Kuwaiti prince's palace, then the torture chambers on the second floor of the same building.
I too visited this residence in mid-March; what most struck me was the conjunction of an operations center and a torture gallery. So far as I know, no other military leaders have consented to let the goons engage in torture in such close proximity to themselves.
The fact that Kuwaiti victims so clearly had no knowledge of American invasion plans makes this conjunction all the more horrific.
