I was delighted that The Courant published my article, "The Bush administration has been a good friend to Israel" [op-ed page, June 11]. But my delight soured when I saw the accompanying illustration.
In an upbeat way, I argued in the article that U.S.-Israel relations are better than many Americans think. Though clearly no fan of the $10 billion loan guarantee, I portrayed this as a minor part of the whole relationship and directed no criticism at the Israelis for seeking it.
Why then, did The Courant choose to illustrate this article with a picture that focuses only on the loan guarantee? And why a drawing with clearly anti-Israeli overtones?
Because the picture distorts the tone and substance of my article, I would like to disassociate myself from it. Further, I request that you take more care in the future with illustrating up and page articles.
