Agence France-Presse reports today from Kashmir that the Islamist separatists there "are swapping their guns for hypodermic syringes so as to pump deadly poison into their victims." It goes on to ascribe this shift n tacts to global outrage following a massacre on March 24 in the Kashmiri village of Nadi Marg that saw "children, women and men lined up by rebels and gunned down in cold blood." Not wanting to offend world opinion, the jihadists have taken up poison injections: "Militants carry these deadly injections in their pockets which allows them easy mobility," in contrast to carrying firearms, explained a local police chief. How long, one shudders to think, will it be until this tactic appears on other fronts in the global jihad? (June 24, 2003)
