The debate has become far more vicious since September 11, 2001, and one sign of that has been that the eminent scholar Bernard Lewis – someone who has savored Islamic culture and professionally studied it for some seventy years – has been called such vulgar names such as an "Islamophobe." But only four years ago, a leading Islamist organization, the Muslim Student Association, placed him on its recommended speakers list - the 151st out of 251 names.
