Today, Rudoph Giuliani, the former mayor of New York City, abandoned his candidcy for president, leaving me free to mention my public involvement in his campaign:
I joined the campaign in August 2007 and pointed out why he was attractive as a candidate. I publicly defended his advisors (including myself) from the charge of being Bush enthusiasts and ridiculed an error by Newsweek about identifying the Giuliani foreign policy team (it got the pictures of 5 out of 6 advisers wrong).
My major analysis, "Bush's Middle East Hopes [and His Failures]," did not mention Giuliani by name but offered a critique of George W. Bush that concluded: "to pretend all is well, or to remain loyal to the person despite his record, does no one a favor. A frank recognition of shortcomings must precede their repair."

I am sorry to see Giuliani drop out. A campaign that once looked golden surprisingly turned to dross. (January 29, 2008)
