Choosing a bookReader comment on item: In the Shadow of the Prophet: The Struggle for the Soul of Islam Submitted by Ayasha (United States), Jun 26, 2007 at 22:32 Thank you, Mr. Pipes for your review of "In the Shadow of the Prophet" by Milton Viorst. I am just now trying to decide which will be my next book to conquer. I use the word conquer because even though I want to read about the Muslim world, I am not well versed on the subject and getting through these books is a bit of a struggle for me. Should I read "In the Shadow of the Prophet" by Mr. Milton Viorst or the "The Truth About Muhammad" by Mr. Robert Spencer? Did you review Mr. Spencer's book as well as Mr. Viorst's by any chance? I will look into that. If you are as enthusiastic about Mr. Spencer's book as you were about Mr. Viorst's, my choice may well be 'neither one.' I wonder if you have a sort of book club where you review all books about Islam? Maybe not all, but some of them? That would be such a help to those of us with great interest, but little or no knowledge of the Arab World and Islam. I suppose a Daniel Pipes book club is just wishful thinking on my part and I will have to do my own heavy lifting... Best regards, Ayasha Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes. Original writing only, please. Comments are screened and in some cases edited before posting. Reasoned disagreement is welcome but not comments that are scurrilous, off-topic, commercial, disparaging religions, or otherwise inappropriate. For complete regulations, see the "Guidelines for Reader Comments". Daniel Pipes replies: I blurbed the Spencer book, so I think well of it.
