Naipaul - Tour de Force

Reader comment on item: Beyond Belief

Naipaul believes that Islam benefits Arabia as the ideology makes non Arabs look upto the Arabs and supplicate to them. For example, without Islam, the Pathans of Afghanistan will give a damn to Arabs.

The author has writen the need for totalitarian states to be rebuilt by United States. Rebuilding will be much more challenging in case of Islamist societies as Afghanistan and Iraq prove.

In case of Germany, fascism was discredited and let go by the Germans. Similarly Japanese Imperialism was let go by the Japanese. And the leaders that espoused the ideologies were comprehensively defeated.

Islamism however camouflages itself under the garb of religion and continues to influence governance. US policy makers have not handled this Islamic trait effectively. The least they could have done in Afghanistan and Iraq was to separate Islamism and governance.
