You've exposed the truthReader comment on item: "How Dare You Defame Islam" Submitted by JAYAGOPAL (India), Aug 27, 2003 at 12:19 Dear Dr.Pipes,Greetings. I have had the pleasure of reading your books: "Rushdie Affair", and "On the path of God". Both books are informative and scholarly. You have lucidly exposed the Muslim mind and the plight of Islam in a world of change and development. Your article: How dare you defame Islam!" throws light on how a few Islamic groups or Muslims while earing their bread and butter on the soil of the United States and Europe could threaten individual life and freedom by making use of the secular democratic Western values and laws to the advantage of Islamic fanaticism. The most dangerous traits of the Muslim's mind have been its fear and suspicion of reason and criticism of its tenets and closed system. Anybody who dares points, at the Mistakes of Islam becomes a kaffir, an infidel, hence the 'Death' threats. In fact, the vast illiterate Muslim masses across the world know nothing of the ideology and political nature of Islam. The majority simply follows the simple rituals and tenets of their Faith. Whether the Muslim Brethren, Taliban or the Al-Qaida it is always the few hundred fanatics who spread hatred and terrify reformers, critics and freethinkers. Ironically it is always the Muslim masses who become victims of the terror in the cloak of religion. Somebody ought to tell the truth about the dimension of Islamic politics and its effect on peace, freedom and happiness of Humanity. There is in the world today only a small number of scholars like you dare tell the truth about the Muslim mind. Muslims who react violently against presentation of facts about their political religion are doing much harm to the peaceful and happy life of Muslims in the West as seen from the aftermath of the destruction of WTO and innocent lives. There could be no 'defaming' of Islam when Islamism is criticised by scholars like you. I would like Muslim scholars to refute the critics but not to react violently for violence or threats can not present any truth nor can it raise the image of Islam. With best wishes, JAYAGOPAL. * * * Dear Dr. Pipes, Please accept my hearty congratulations for having been appointed by the United States government as one of the leading members of the Peace-Think Tank. In view of the growing menace of Islamism your guidance in peacefully checking the rise of militant and fundamentalist Islam would be of great importance and help to World peace as also to the well-being of Muslims everywhere. I wish you all success in your efforts. I would greatly appreciate if you could spare some moments to reply. With esteem regards and love JAYAGOPAL. JayaGopal Arilova, Visakhapatnam-530 040 INDIA.
