A National TreasureReader comment on item: [Campus Watch and] Saving Mideast Studies Submitted by Arlinda DeAngelis (United States), Sep 20, 2003 at 09:23 Dr. Pipes was the first academic who pulled away the veil of leftwing radical intolerance that shrouded the faculty of colleges and universities. There was a time when no one would question their teaching or their commentary. They were the country's intellectual elite and no matter how anti-American and anti-Israel were their analyses, we believed them. All despotic theocratic Middle-Eastern governments along with their corrupt leaders were good. The West was bad and America and Israel were the worst. Dr. Pipes made academics human and the kings lost their finery. He used the most potent weapon in the world, the truth. Wherever and whenever Dr. Pipes speaks and writes, he takes the audience into a classroom. His website is a marveloous place to take a course on the Middle East. Commentary and analysis with references to scholarly books and position papers are available to the audience. This academic is a national treasure. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes. Original writing only, please. Reasoned disagreement is welcome but not comments that are scurrilous, off-topic, commercial, disparaging religions, or otherwise inappropriate.
