Dealing with threats to security of USA from Islamic terroristsReader comment on item: An Interview With Daniel Pipes Submitted by Rashpal Brittanicus Page Sunner (United Kingdom), Sep 21, 2003 at 22:27 Dear SirI thought I would throw my little comment into the pot for what its worth. So here it is. I am convinced that the USA did the correct thing in invading Iraq and Afghanistan. The real reasons for this were more to do with oil piplines and oil then with other given reasons... I support all of those objectives and it is right for the USA to ally itself with its concerns for Israel and the energy supply. The point is where to go from here? I think Saudi Arabia as the sponser of Wahhabi fundamentalistic doctrine must be the next target. Once the financial support that arises out of Saudi Arabia for these movements goes then they will in time fizzle out of their own accord either by establishing Islamic Paradises that fail or by economic enstranglement by the World economic powers. Either way the key point is Saudi Arabia; but the problem is how to invade a country that is the custodian of Islam's holiest shrines. It just does not seem feasible. However a way must be found to stop the flow of funds for the spread of this doctrine of Wahhabism. I think the CIA must get involved in a covert operation to track the supply of funds and present its findings to the US government who could then be in a position to snuff it out by making life difficult for all institutions involved in the funding of this doctrine. (The Key problem is when it gets to the Saudi government level.) Since Wahhabism is a doctrine of terrior this makes it the root of all the problems of terrorist attacks at the moment. Stopping Wahabbi doctrine at it source is the key stratagy that needs to be looked at. Then again one could simply invade Saudi Arabia, take it over, hold on to it and see what happens. However for this stratagy to work the Israelis must be involved (and big time involved) for it is simply too big for the USA to pull it off alone. It is highly improbable any one would support it except for Israel, so it does need to be a joint effort. I do feel this is the most risky stratagy as it ignites all kinds of passions. However, the Wahabbi doctine would simply be replaced by a more moderate one culled by the help of some Islamic theolgians and this could then be presented as the alternative doctrine. This could easily be financed by the administration that takes over via some puppet leader of Saudi Origin. The flow of funds would only be available to institutions that are in effect willing to allow Israel and US to have the security they desire. Any deviation would result in the funding being withdrawn and government persecution at the local country level. The government in question would naturally have to be sweetened somewhat in order for it to cooperate with this policy. Naturally some governments are not easily sweetened. Iran for one.Iran is also another headache and will be in the forefront of the expected retaliation. I am sure the administration may already have given this idea some thought. I am not sure just yet that is could be done. Another outrage from an Islamist country needs to happen in order to give it the political impetus it needs in order for it to be made more palatable for the electorate. I do feel the Bush administration has done what it can. This will definitely be something that a brave and courageous post-Bush administration needs to look at. Thanks and best of luck with all your work. Your sincerely Rashpal Brittanicus Page Sunner
