Religion a thorn in one's side!Reader comment on item: Some News Items from Londonistan Submitted by Nick4693 (Japan), Dec 3, 2007 at 19:35 You say, Octavio, that British people are anti-Christian. They are not against Christians per se. They simply don't believe in gods or religion. Many people are now coming to their senses with the proliferation of knowledge and learning as we enter the third millenium, and now realize that there is no biblical god. Never has been, never will be! Why did so many believe in the past? They had no choice; it was "believe or die." The threat of being tortured and burned at the stake for heresy, or otherwise murdered in myriad ways, were powerful persuaders. Just reading about the methods used during the European Inquisitions is enough to give the most strong-willed person nightmares. Christianity has a lot to answer for, but most Christians today uphold their religion as though it is the bedrock of morality; as though without it there would be no morality. How arrogant and stupid! The British are not against just Christianity, as you state. They are against religion and its controlling and debilitating effects. First, understand this: all religions are cults, without exception. On second thoughts, there is an exception -- Islam, which in no way can even be considered a cult, unless one thinks of a death cult. Islam means submission. It does not mean submission to god, as Muslims are wont to explain. They mean submission to the will of the clerics, the mullahs, the imams. Islam means total control from the cradle to the grave. When religion and politics are placed in the same pot, you have a witch's brew, which affects every single aspect of your life. Read about life in Islamic countries across the world! The Salman Rushdie fatwah! The Danish cartoons! The Sudan teddy bear fiasco! Muslims surely are the most mindless automatons on the face of the Earth, who allow themselves to be manipulated by their clerics like wooden marionettes. Second, religion is based on myths, legends, superstitions and fairy tales, handed down over generations upon generations, long before the advent of the Torah, the Bible and the Koran. Look around you and you will find people throughout the world, even today in this age of enlightenment, believing in the most outrageous things, from stones and rocks to plants and animals. Holy cows are free to wander and defecate in the streets of India's cities, and woe betide the innocent person who accidentally steps on and kills a holy rodent at some of the rat-infested temple sites in northern India, all in the name of religion. Christians are no different in their own way. Despite scientific proof and using one's common sense, they believe in age-old legends that say the Earth was created in six days by a god that, despite his omnipotence, required a day of rest. Phew!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Remember, the burden of proof that there is a god rests with believers, not unbelievers, but they cannot do it. Christians will say that one must have faith. What does that mean? Faith in what primitive cave-dwellers created and then came to believe in due to their ignorance? How silly modern man has become! The definition of faith is firm belief in something for which there is no proof. Prove the existence of gods, any god, and I will become an instant convert. Your claim that a nation of atheists has no remedy against militant Islam is conveniently simplistic. The remedy lies not with atheists, but with strong-willed politicians. It is a solely a political issue. Unfortunately, the British voted New Labour into power, which caused the spread of this insidious disease -- Islam. Blair, with his disastrous multiculturalism and liberal immigration policies; and now Brown, simply a wannabe PM, who continues to follow in the footsteps of Blair. The remedy lies with the British people, next time at the polls. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
