I had Omid Safi as a professorReader comment on item: Omid Safi's Closed Classroom Submitted by Josh (United States), Dec 19, 2007 at 21:18 For the previous couple of weeks, I've had Omid as a teacher and guest lecturer for where I attend college. I began taking the Islam course only because it fit into my schedule and I needed a 300 level religion class to graduate. But because of him I grew to appreciate the Islamic religion and grew to understand it better. He constantly reminded us of the fact that this was only his view, and that there are tons of views out there to which it is our job to research and find the common ground of Islam. He in no way pushed his ideas on us. In fact, the classes were led by student discussion and he answered only when necessary. This is signs of a true professor, not someone who you created on your webpage. I appreciated his visit to our campus. And we can all learn great things from this man and from others who are willing to share their views on religion with us. Ignorance on the subject only causes the so called "Holy Wars" that we try to fight to end the "ignorance we see". Submitting....
