Palestinian povertyReader comment on item: The Palestinian Economy in Shambles Submitted by Janusz Kowalik (United States), Dec 27, 2007 at 13:15 Helping Palestinians is not pouring more money down the rat hole. The West should provide a conditional support demanding plans and results. As long as PA is corrupted and the governing process chaotic nobody can expect any positive results of financial donations. The roots of the Palestinian problem go very deep. They suffer not only from the lack of money but the lack of the most basic principles of modern life in general.. Like in many other Islamic countries there is no understanding how democracy should function. Islam provides no guidelines for the people or even worse it kills all attempt to develop a democratic system . Obedience to Allah and religious leaders is important not the good and will of th people.Reforming and modernizing Islam is the most important task if the Muslim countries become prosperous and civilized .Without such reforms all other attempts by The West to help Palestinians will be hopeless and ineffective.
