Oil Money Speaks Loudly

Dr. Pipes - oil money is oil money. Oil money speaks loudly. During Pres. Bush's last campaign, I was contacted by a fellow Jew in my community who fervently urged me to get a meeting in my synagogue organized so that he could speak to the congregation about how urgent it was for Bush to become the president for a second term because he was the greatest friend Israel ever had.

I told him to watch out - that uncritical support of just about any politician is basically a major error, and certainly one so firmly rooted in oil. I did not trust Kerry at all, and voted for Bush, but not without many misgivings, and now I know that the misgivings were more than just a gut feeling. It would not be possible, of course, for this level of pressure to be brought by the US so successfully were it not for the fact that the current crop of Israeli leaders are so completely busy fawning and seeking to concede just about anything for a pat on the head from Washington. - R
