excellent articleReader comment on item: Maher Hawash: The Terrorist Next Door Submitted by Stephen Minnich (United States), Dec 1, 2003 at 11:19 Your article does well to express the degenerating effects of fundamental Islam on it's followers. Fundamentalism in Islam is NOT a religion, but an extreme ideology like nazism, that can lead only to violence. It is not protected by our constitution. Every proper Muslim in the US and the world must realise this and act in any way they can to end it's spread. This is a tall order for many who have political issue with the West, and a long exposure to fundamentalist propaganda. There are familial, racial, and other ties that affect Muslims too. Yet, taking a stand against the fundamentalists is the only right action, and their only hope of preserving their religion and culture.Because fundamentalists extend no human rights, they cannot expect to receive them. Yet, they largely will in our land. We must always be watchful of them, and not hesitate to pick up those who represent a threat. It is regretable when innocents are detained, and I favor as rapid as possible investigation and hearing of them as possible. There will be some cases of injustice in the rounding up of such a large movement. These should be properly corrected. American Muslims themselves can do the most to prevent injustice, by being forthright and helpfully concerned. So far, from a historical perspective, America is doing a vastly better job on the homefront than was done in WW2, in regards to the miserable treatment of many Japanese American citizens during that period. I tire of hearing the tirades of knee-jerk liberals and gung-ho conservatives, that spout their ideologies rather than examine each issue, seeking justice. Their silence when proven wrong is VERY conspicuous, as well as the deafening silence emanating from numerous Muslim institutions.
