There for the long haulReader comment on item: "The Largest Embassy Ever Run by any Country" Submitted by mak (Australia), Apr 19, 2008 at 07:22 The UN pulled out of Iraq in August 2003, shortly after the bombing that killed 17 Un staff. Among them was a heroic, moral Brazilian, the UN envoy to Iraq,Sergio Vierra de Mello. HIs mandate was firstly to get the occupational forces out of Iraq, return Iraq to the Iraqi's, who contrary to the popular media view ,are quite cappable of governing themselves. Cheney,I'm sure was glad to see the UN out of Iraq, So too Israel and Saudi Arabia, are quite content having their big bully friend in the neighbourhood. How can anyone think the US ever had any other intention than to keep a long term military presence in Iraq? Massive ,secretive (what isn't secretive with this administration) military bases, an embassy 10 times bigger than any other, the busiest military airport in the world, the second busiest airport in the world.Five years on, These are not signs of a liberating army these are signs of an occupying army.
