The assassination of Dr KalifaReader comment on item: [Khalid DurĂ¡n] An American Rushdie? Submitted by Jack Wright (United States), Jul 14, 2002 at 23:50 I used to be an avid poster in favor of women's rights as enunciated by Dr Kalifa and his brother who survived him. At the time of his assassination, January 1990, he was in the kitchen of the Tucson, Arizona, mosque, at approximately three in the morning. He had been warned by ATF people following a raid upon a Muslim arms cache in Colorado. The Muslims most fortunately surrendered their weapons without a fight. The ATF people did discover on the premises, the plans to assassinate Dr Khalifa, and he was forthwith warned. However, highly-principled as he was, he did not hide, but continued his duties as imam of that mosque. His routine as a night person in the mosque at such an hour was known in the community. Many many Muslimah women felt great sorrow upon his assassination. He had written many books in favor of women's rights as expressed in the Noble Qur'an, and he was a foe of the ahadith that contradicted the women's rights revelations in the Qur'an. (e.g., that hadith that says that Allah's Apostle [pbuh] saw into The Fire and most of the occupants were women, because they did not appreciate their husbands enough and insulted each other too much; also we might say that hadith which says that each male Muslim in Paradise gets two hwri women, the bright-eyed ones, the daughters of Adam)
