Women as DoctorsReader comment on item: Niqab Hospital Gowns Submitted by Tegan (United States), Jul 27, 2008 at 02:21 I am a Muslim American woman. Yes, I do prefer a woman doctor, but if I do not have a choice I will have a male doctor. I do not know why you would think that Muslim men do not want to teach women medicine. I suggest you look through your phone books and see all of the practicing muslim female doctors. My GP is a Muslim female, my OBGYN was a Muslim female, I know of many, many, female doctors and pharmacists. In fact, I am studying to become a Pharmacist myself. Also, I am perfectly fine with a non-muslim treating me or my child. I do have a non-muslim pediatrician for my son who was actually referred to me by another female Muslim pharmacist. I might also add that there are no restrictions on the medical treatment of a female by a male if there are no other choices. I suggest that you go to your local mosque and ask them questions before making assumptions based upon a nation's laws. In addition, I would not say that any "Muslim" country is run by true Sharia law. The laws are more the whims of kings and heads of state. Sharia actually means to council, in order to have true Sharia one must have the consent of the governed. Hmmm, sounds a lot like Locke, he paved the way for US democracy, huh? We are not so different than you think. When was the last time you spoke to one of the ladies in niqab?
