Take your pickReader comment on item: Might the Global Financial Crisis Impede Iranian Nuclear Plans? Submitted by Rebecca Moulds (United States), Nov 4, 2008 at 08:21 It's not surprising that the oil industry figures greatly in the politics of the coming years. Having been indirectly involved with it for the past thirty years, I can say that it truly does run the world whether or not one believes this. My guess is Dr. Pipes' second choice, an attack on an oil tanker in the Gulf of Hormuz, or even in the Gulf of Suez. When driving along the Red Sea road past Suez, one can see many tankers plying their trade---really they are sitting ducks------ even with the tight security in these waters, just one attack could spark a conflict. The offshore rigs may also be targets for terrorists. The Middle East is a real hot-spot for terror attacks on oil rigs or oil fields, therefore are heavily guarded. While this country was totally absorbed in the present so-called recession and its presidential elections, the gears of the rest of the world continued to grind away without our attention. Let's hope we won't have to scramble at the last minute to regain our integrity.
