She claims that Al-Qaeda was Iraq's front group working under false flag ? Anybody studying intelligence in the Cold War can verify that the Red Brigades or even the Baader gang were financed - sometimes even trained - by Russia's KGB. 2. Iraq could not have used islamists as cheap recruits to hit American interests ? Americans used them to hit the Soviets during the 3. Saddam didn't want to hit America ? In 1992, in Kuweit, Saddam tried to kill... the president of the United States ! 4. One of the brains of the 1993 WTC bombings, Ahmed Yasin, fled to Iraq and got a government paid job until 2003 and the US invasion. For which reason do you think Saddam granted him those honors ? The only "loopy theories" actually come from Mylroie's critics. It's clear, to any open-minded person, that Laurie Mylroie has understood the threats of Middle Eastern intelligence affairs far better than most of today's scholars. She deserves our respect.
