Arabs are good at auto racing

Reader comment on item: Drag Racing vs. Islamic Civilization?

Submitted by Robert Arbetman (United States), May 19, 2009 at 16:07

Bahrain and UAE have Formula 1 events. Successful Arab-American (albeit not Muslim) drivers include Bobby Rahal and Boris Said. Bobby Rahal won the Indianapolis 500.

Drag racing isn't quite the good-old-boy culture that characterizes NASCAR. Also, women drivers are well established in the NHRA and have been competing for a long time. Ashley Force Hood is one of the best Funny Car drivers in NHRA. Her father, John Force is a legend in the sport.

Ashley Force Hood is NOT going to move over and let a man do the driving for her; certainly not to accomodate Sharia. If Al-Thani wants to compete in NHRA, he's going to have to compete against women.

Nobody seems to have mentioned that little issue.
