Why should the West treat Muslims so well?Reader comment on item: Christian Minority vs. Muslim Minority Submitted by J.K. (Australia), May 30, 2009 at 04:14 First I must say thank-you, Mr Daniel Pipes, for hosting this website that can fully relate to my attitudes and beliefs. Before anything else, I must add that I am a Christian who migrated to the West, and I come from a city that is 60% Muslim. As an immigrant I could only be in awe of how well the people of my new country treated me (even not-knowing that I was Christian). They did not even see me as different and treated me the same as anyone else. This attitude, I have concluded, is definitely something that has been rooted from the West's Christian up-bringing. I have always believed that migrants should conform to their new countries, and not the other way around. So I was bewildered when these wonderful people treated me so well. But what annoys me, is that I see these Muslim migrants who migrate like I did to these glorious Christian countries, but instead of conforming, they try to turn everything up-side-down, simply because they want what they want, and they don't want to conform to anyones beliefs but their own. [Some of the things on this website are examples of this]. But how can you upturn the system of such a prosperous country, and instead force such a thing as Islamic ideologies? How are these Christian ideologies (of which the West has prospered on) worse than Islamic ones? Whether you are religious or not, what is so bad about loving one another unconditionally, forgiveness, kindness to thy neighbour, etc.? I say to myself "Why are these [Western] people letting them do this to their country? Why should we let them live in this country when their ideologies are the complete opposite; and they want everyone to conform to their beliefs? Not only that, but they hate you! (Islamic philosophy blames the West and Christianity and Judaism for all their problems). And you still let them live in your country? If only you people had seen what I have seen." Back in my old country, every so often, little children would throw stones at our windows, and my grandmother used to say "It is because we are Christians." (In such countries, it is very obvious if you are not Muslim). Not only this, but I am not making this up: There is a 150-year-old church that we used to go to, and Muslims from the neighbourhood bombed it. Thankfully nobody died. But my point is, the West should not have to take all this from people who don't share the same democratic, free, tolerant, humane principles as you do. The West obeys the Muslims because they are scared of insulting their religion, and in general, see terrorism and violence as a reason to not upset them. This is why the Muslim minorities are treated so well in the West. The other reason is that the Christian ideology of these countries promote peace, love and caring to whoever regardless of race, gender, age, etc; whereas Islam means "submission" thereby saying that everyone will submit [to our barbaric lifestyle] whether they choose to or not. It annoys me beyond belief that the West can treat the Muslim minority which such love; whereas my Christian brothers and sisters in my old country are getting blown up! Oh well, If only Christianity wasn't so loving! Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes. Original writing only, please.
