Pan Islamism and Indo-Turkey -Brit axisReader comment on item: Pan-Islamism: Indian Muslims, the Ottomans and Britain (1877-1924) Submitted by mohammad allam (India), Aug 11, 2009 at 06:03 This is nice to read some more information on Indo-Brit-Turko pan-Islamism.In real sense the main exponant of Pan-Islamism in modern sence was Jamaluddin Afghani. He tried to face the colonial challenge of the west by popularising the concept of pan-Islamism.But later on this concept was used by the Turkey ruler for their political gain and save their interest against the western powers which started to bully Turkey after crimian war. For the Indian Muslim Turkey ruler was Khalifa and spiritual head of Islamic world. In India this relation was strenghthened by the Ulema group to counter the emerging alliance of the British goverment and the some section of Indian people. The question of threat to British Empire in 1857 and 1914 was different. The Revolt of 1857 was a revolt to power of indian muslims which reached into culmination till 1914. The decision of Kamal Ataturk to abolish Khilifat was a set back to Turkey geo-political reach in the world.Every country ruler wants to make thier country as centre of world affairs. But Kamal decision Turkey was enjoying a status of world super power backed by the world Muslims. But what Kamal did?He Turned the Turkey from a world super power to a mere regional power. His dream to be a part of western culture remain unfulfilled while otherhand Turkey lost the leadership of world. What status the saudia enjoyed today that was the due of Turkey. Can any farsighted person support intropective step of Kamal Pasha by seeing the question of leadership and a new middle dimensional complex political reality?
