Not exactly a prophecy...Reader comment on item: The Problem of Soviet Muslims Submitted by Pavel (United States), Aug 5, 2002 at 15:41 Admiring your superior overall analyses and prognosis I have to admit - this one did not exactly make it to the point did it?...I understand it was not a subject of the article - still worth mentioning, a few "second-grade" (autonomous) Turkish-speaking (Muslim) republics exist inside Russian Hartland - along Volga river - namely Tatarstan with population of 3,7 million, of which 48% are Tatars (of Turkic origin.), Mari (750,000, 50%), Udmurt (1,644,000, 39%), Chuvash (1,4 million, 70%) and Bashkortostan (don't have exact numbers at the moment). Today there are approximately 20 million Muslims in Russia and they have more than 7,000 mosques. What would United States' middle-East policy look like if it had 20 millions Muslims? "Israel? What Israel?" Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes. Original writing only, please.
