A Nation divided will soon PerishReader comment on item: Wasting U.S. Taxpayer Money in Afghanistan Submitted by LOU FROM QUEENS,NYC,USA (United States), Feb 16, 2010 at 16:19 The arrest of Abdul Ghani Barader is the most significant breakthrough for the US-led hunt for the Taliban's leaders since that war began. It comes as NATO forces continue to advance into the Taliban-held stronghold areas of the southern Afghan province of Helmand. Barader was seized in a secret joint operation by Pakistani and US intelligence forces. The significance of this event should not be understated; it marks the end of the cordial relationship between Pakistan and the Taliban, and also bodes ill for the foreign al Qaeda interlopers. Finally Pakistan has awakened to the fact that the Taliban, and al Qaeda's real goal is to dominate their country. Soon the tribal leaders of Waziristan will be forced to choose sides, either aligning themselves with their country, or remaining collaborators with the enemy. For too long Pakistan has allowed itself to be a weakened nation divided along both ethnic and regional lines. The time has come for the Pakistani government, and their people to remove the tumor that has spread from the North-West area of their country. It would be foolish for the Pakistani military to waste an opportunity to crush their enemies when they would be assured of a victory with the help of NATO forces that are now routing the Taliban in Afghanistan.
