In your reply to Lawrence Auster in Front Page Magazine published on January 28, 2005, you made some comments I would like to comment on. You said, "... Islam can be whatever Muslims wish to make of it." This might be true for non-practicing Muslims, but I think practicing Muslims can only be what Islam makes of them. They have no choice but to follow in the footsteps of Mohammed, and this is not good in the long run for non-Muslims.
You also said, "... my study is not of Islam the faith but of Muslims in history." I think this is why you miss the dangers posed by Islam to all other non-Muslims. Islam is a unique religious/political/cultural system in my view. There is nothing else like it on earth, and never has been. It uses any and all means to convert the entire human race to Islam, no matter how long it takes. Jihad can be violent and it can be peaceful, but its purpose is the same.
Look how Muslims immigrate to other countries. Is there any country in the world that has not had recent Muslim immigrants from one or more countries? Most of these immigrants come not to be equal but to be superior. They demand special treatment every where they go and they have infiltrated all of our institutions where they work to gain power and influence. They try to use our own laws against us to set aside our freedoms such as free speech. Muslims are in all fifty states and they are building an unprecedented number of Mosques and Madrassas. It seems likely that there are only about 10 Muslims per Mosque or Madrassa. Doesn't that seem strange? I think we must confront them with our understanding of what we think Islam really means to pious Muslims and thus let them know why we are suspicious of their motives.
We also need to know how they can alter Islam so that we no longer perceive it as dangerous to our American Culture, in order to ensure that they are not here to take over but to learn our culture and become equals. If they didn't come over here to become Americans, then shouldn't we be suspicious of them? They should also put America first over any other country, Muslim or not.
I still believe that Islam is dangerous to the West and to America. Pious Muslims need to be watched closely and expelled or jailed if they misbehave. Non-practicing Muslims may not be a threat as long as they behave like a patriot.
