Turkey's just getting started

Reader comment on item: More on Islamist Turkey Overreaching

Submitted by Logus (United States), Jun 11, 2010 at 01:10

It takes the flotilla raid to wake the world up to Turkey? Gee, how many people have had their heads in the sand or just out to lunch for so long?

Well over a year ago STRATFOR pointed out the growing future of Turkey, and while many may find the opinion unbelievable, perhaps many may need to start reading the likes of Walid Shoebat and Joel Richardson. There have been a number of people who've been keeping their eyes on Turkey for quite some time, so none of what is occuring is surprising.

The paradigm is shifting in the Middle East. A new Ottoman empire is emerging and will be in alliance with the Shiites. The old Arab paradigm is waning, with their foot on the neck of the Shiites. And Israel will still be in the crosshairs.

Turkey is turning Islamist. History has shown that minorities can and have gained control of governments and populations. That the majority of Turkey is not Islamist is irrelevant. A year after violent protests, Iran is still controlled by what is apparently a minority view of Islamists in a nation growing increasingly secular and apathetic to Islam. What matters is who controls what and where.

And as for Mr. Oktar, he's still very much someone to be concerned about. Just because he doesn't approve of the "activists" on the flotilla doesn't mean that he's got a great worldview. He's waiting for the Mahdi. The same can be said of Gulen.

Israel has its back against a wall, and the US has effectively left its side with Obama's continued dithering and rebuffing.

War is coming to the Middle East again soon. Major war, and Turkey and Iran will play notable roles.

We will hear more and more about Turkey in the news, like we've never heard before. On an aside, I would not be surprised in the least to hear by next year that Turkey will effectively own Greece. Either being forced out or jumping out, Greece will probably leave the EU, and Turkey will pick up the pieces gladly.
