Regroup to fight another dayReader comment on item: Karzai's Brother and Washington's Kept Politicians Submitted by No Dhimmi (United States), Jun 13, 2010 at 02:03 I had supported our efforts in Afghanistan from the beginning but have unfortunately come to the conclusion that we should leave for a number of reasons. The United States should not support the Government of Hamid Karzai. It is corrupt, ineffective, and weak. The majority of Afghans do not support it and our association with it is detrimental to ability to win over the Afghan population. The New York Times has reported that he does not believe we can win either and is trying to negotiate with the Taliban. We should not be protecting a Government that is negotiating with our enemy. Our hands are tied because our military cannot enter areas of Pakistan that are Taliban sanctuaries. The BBC News reported a study by the London School of Economic showing Pakistani ISI officials openly supporting the Taliban. Their reply to it the study confirmed it's accuracy, one word reply...."Rubbish," Did someone not tell the LSE that it is common knowledge that there are elements in the ISI that have been supporting the Taliban for years. There is no doubt that our enemies the Taliban, Al-Qaeda and the Pakistani ISI will see our withdrawal as a sign that "Allah has willed this" and given them a huge propaganda coup. Finally, the "elephant in the room" that no one wants to talk about is the belief that Allah has ordained that the United States should be overthrown so that Islam can take it's rightful place in the world as the "only religion worthy of worship" as Mohammed said and also the only system of governance. The war that Islam started with the world 1400 years ago when Muslim armies took the Lesser Jihad beyond the borders of Arabia will continue and expand during this Century. There will be future wars involving factions of Islam. I have yet to hear our leaders articulate how we will address these realities so we will not have to continue sacrificing American lives and wasting American taxpayer dollars in Afghanistan. We should regroup so as to fight another day and formulate a realistic plan for success. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
