Gaza Disengagment: Appeasement?Reader comment on item: Palestinian Responses to an Israeli Withdrawal from Gaza Submitted by David Cahn (United States), Jun 29, 2010 at 19:55 As usual throughout history appeasement of the enemy doesn't work - and that is what we see in the Gaza disengagement. It seems as if Israel disengaged in the hopes that giving in to the enemy would be peace - wow were they wrong! However, they had an ulterior motive to disengagement, Israel is a democracy and so the Gazans could vote. They did not want the country to have a Palestinian majority so they disengaged and caused the country to remain with an pro-Israel majority. Thus they did not appease, but their actions had the same psychological effect of appeasement because the rest of the world viewed it as appeasement.
