Turkey and IramReader comment on item: Debating Policy toward Turkey and Iran Submitted by mo (United Kingdom), Jul 1, 2010 at 16:18 Dear Rory, Why do you want to impose a western style democracy in Turkey. After all, all these years Turkey was a modern, liberal secular western style democracy under the generals. Only problem was that the people in turkey did not like it. So when they got the undemocratic right to choose the government they did it, by electing the AKP. Now due to their undemocratic acts, the turkish people are prosperous, business is booming, and their popularity is sky high. Now again why do you want to insist that tukey should have a western style democracy. You have installed most modern, secular, progressive democratic sheik in Kuwait when mad saddam deposed him, spending billions of dollars of tax payers money and american lives. Also you have hundreds of thousands of military personnel stationed in other modern democratic sheikhdomes of gulf to protect the democracy there. Another moden democracy, saudi arabia is most trusted friend of america. You pay 3 billion of tax payer dollor to Egypt to protect the democracy under emergency law. You are also spending trillions and lives of your military to protect democracy in Afganistan. So why cant you leave poor Turkey to regress to dark ages if turkes have chosen to do so. It does not cost you a cent. Come on be rational.
