no return to occupationReader comment on item: Gaza to Egypt – Voices of Support Submitted by myth (Germany), Jul 20, 2010 at 06:56 Involving european military in Gaza would effectively be a return to occupation. In the case of European military I would expect a handicapped military force doing police work. Israel should more focus on conveying the fact that there is no more occupation of Gaza rather than reinstating it. From a practical point of view it is common sense that noone lacking the language skills can do the police work required. That rules out Europe anyway. Even worse, Europe has no long-term commitment in Gaza. It would take the usual five years for Europe to declare any sort of exit a success. In the meantime Israel's deterrent forces would be rendered ineffective for there are friendly forces in Gaza, thus no military intervention possible. Calling for the French Foreign Legion has some colonial smell about it. I conclude Gaza needs an arab-speaking force with a long-term commitment in the strip. The question is, what has Israel to offer to Egypt to make them volunteer for the job ?
