A principled positionReader comment on item: Western Governments Veto Saudi Funding for Islam Submitted by Rajeev (United States), Nov 29, 2010 at 03:18 Dear Dr Pipes: I applaud the turning down of Saudi requests to send funds to build mosques by Australian and Norwegian governments. Saudi funding of sectarian causes in otherwise secular and modern societies is a world-wide problem. The reason that Saudi Arabia lack religious freedom cited by the Norwegian government in turning down the funds is very principled and I agree with you that this stand could be a trend setter. I think the same principled reason should be applied the world over by the individuals and businesses who value freedom to deny business or cultural links with Saudi Arabia and other theocracies of the world. These two incidences are one of the few examples where governments have set good examples for the people.
