Helprin is Right OnReader comment on item: Has America Learned from 9/11? Submitted by Barry Miller (United States), Nov 2, 2004 at 17:50 How do we know what policy with respect to the war on terror the Kerry administration will pursue? Haven't we learned enough about this man to know that he has no deeply grounded views? Any assessment of his outlook on this issue is premature.Regrettably, I think Helprin is right. Yes, he tends to be a pessimist. That comes through in his articles on foreign policy. His chapter or afterward in the book "The Mideast Peace Process" is a fine example. Yet he was right on in his notion that the Mideast nuclear bad guy had to be dealt with. Two of the four Moslem/Arab nations with WMD capability he cites are now out of nuclear business and another (pakistan) is our 'ally." Iran remains. Barry Miller
