If comparative statistics from prior decades is not presented to the reader, how does one know that the trend of change Daniel Pipes is suggesting is not based primarily on anecdotal evidence, illustrated by Daniel Pipes' personal statement of his own experience?

This is not a scholarly study, just a snapshot of a moment in time. You can take my assurances that in Abdul Nasser's heyday, the percentage of Pan-Arabists far exceeded 3 percent.
