On the Comment about Rhodes College

If you spent 12 years as an adjunct faculty member, and thus did not become tenure-track after your first six years there, you're bound to be grumpy about anything. The fact is: some colleges are more conservative or more liberal than others. The purist temptation is to reject something if it has a speck of dirt on it, and never to compromise. I would rather go to Rhodes than to Berkeley, and so would any sane conservative.
