Reader comment on item: Tyrants on the Run, Like Common Criminals

Submitted by Mike Shapiro (United States), Jun 13, 2011 at 10:05

I saw a solution to the problem of what to do with these folks. I think the solution was only 1/2 tongue in cheek, but it would probably provide a comfortable answer to those who oppose assassinations, the death penalty, etc. Since there would be no "ultimate" penalty, a trial could be simple, quick and cheap.

The Penalty would be exile to St. Helena (not some Swiss estate [see: Duvalier, Baby Doc]). A relatively efficient prison could be set up. Those sent there would have no contact with the outside world via Internet, TV, etc. They could bring their immediate family and no one else.

Easy to guard. Unpleasant. Not the death penalty.
