Religion of Peace during the holiest monthReader comment on item: Islam: Religion of Peace? Submitted by Ted (United States), Aug 21, 2011 at 15:27 Dear Dr Pipes: Ramadan is supposed to be the holiest month in Islam. During this month innocent Israelis were attacked and killed in areas bordering Egypt. Pakistani Talibans killed dozens of fellow muslims in a mosque bombing. A substantial opposition to the countries' governments is currently underway in India, Greece, Italy, and Spain but no one on any side is killing anyone on any other. But, by the way of contrast, in Iraq, Syria, Libya, Egypt and Afghanistan those who are opposing the government and are killing and getting killed by the government forces. Turkey, not to be left behind, is bombing Kurdish fellow muslims. And, I am very sure Kurds might be killing Turks. While the non-muslim world is campaigining to raise funds for famine struck Somalia, Somalian pirates dutifully are hijacking an Indian tanker around Oman. All during the holiest month! While all this is going on those who are, hopefully, the thought leaders of the Islamic world --the Zakarias, the Espositos, the Farrakhans, the Alis, the Muhammads, and the Khans are sleep walking through history and, probably, pontificating about democracy, liberty, human rights, and freedom using the borrowed western terminology. When will this madness stop? Will any Muslim reader of this forum respond? And, please, do not blame the western imperialism because that is a broken record.
