Iran's having a nuclear bomb would suit their defence

In these sorts of comments people naturally take partisan positions. Fair enough. But if one was to stand in Iran's shoes and see two of its neighbours recently invaded bu the US (Afghanistan and Iraq), wouldn't nuclear deterrence seem a rational decision? It would be the only way Iran could stand off a US invasion.
