Not a military contestReader comment on item: Nothing Succeeds Like Failure Submitted by BJ (Australia), Nov 23, 2012 at 23:30 Yes, but what could the Gazans realistically do? Israel has an airforce, navy, modern arms etc, it was never a real military contest. It was a public relations exercise, controlled on both sides by poll numbers. When the Israeli government realised that polling for a ground war was 30% it was time to pull up. Likewise, Hamas no doubt realised the initial wave of support would quickly wane as things got worse, so both sides took the easy way out. Now the leaders and controllers of the war have to put the best spin on it to, not just to justify their actions, but to capitilise on the "glow of victory". When the peace makers get control, and nationalism is suppressed, such wasteful violence will stop.
