Verbal whitewashing of islamists to emerge as democratic revolutionaries in Syria requires bleach rather than words. The chemical weapons of Syria would stay stubbornly inert to such optimism, whatever the outcome. Maybe the paradox characterization "moderate rebels" makes sense to the US government. But moderate chemical weapons there are none. This fact provides direction to identify the original US interest in Syria. The chemical weapons relate the civil war in Syria to the safety of Western populations tomorrow rather than the demise of ordinary Syrians today.
