Criminal Courts and JihadReader comment on item: Mistakes Made the Catastrophe Possible Submitted by Jonathan Pfeffer (Canada), Apr 30, 2013 at 15:25 Let me offer this perspective on the criminalization of Jihadi terrorism. The West has won a great victory over the Jihadi terrorists by the simple fact that the terror gangs can't seem to control the theme of the reporting that follows their acts of terror. Rather, the bad guys, having never contemplating capture, have to now focus on their own plight through the courts or at least the threat of prosecution as far as those on the periphery. Jihadists want to believe that they are fighting a war. They want to go on the offensive and attack, then they want to draw World attention to their "brave" fallen warriors, just as we would want to do in our just wars. Then, the Jihadists want to draw attention to Islam's victimization at the hands of the West. Unfortunately for them, and good for us, it never seems to work that way. What actually happens is the World focuses on the victims of the terror attack, then the World focuses on what the terrorists were thinking and how their minds became twisted. Our authorities turn captured terrorists, like suspect # 2 in the Boston attack, whom, once isolated from their former handlers, sing the tunes of their new cohorts, namely the Western educated lawyers who defend them. They end up apologizing to their victims and condemning those that inspired them. Whether these apologies are genuine or not are less important. It is about the themes that the public focuses on. This is one of the benefits of our long pedantic criminal justice. It directs public attention, to focus on their long plight through the justice system, and not on their dastardly cause.
