Yes, Hinduism is viewed as a religion in the West. This survey was carried out in France which has a very small Hindu population. If a similar survey were carried out in the UK for example, I am sure Hinduism would be mentioned, as would Sikhism. I would guess also that Hinduism would be viewed very favorably, because of its respect for life and its vegetarianism.
