Victory For The Rioters

Reader comment on item: Russian Intentions in Syria; Explaining the Turkish Unrest

Submitted by Dave (United States), Jun 13, 2013 at 18:54

There are two frontlines in the war on Islamism: Israel and Turkey. It is essential that the secular forces win in Turkey in order to demonstrate to the world that political Islam can be defeated by free people. This principle is far greater than any consequences for Syria or "stability".

For the most part, the real heroes have been those Turks who say that they want their country to be Turkey and not Iran. On the other hand, Obama and the State Department have been mealy mouthed, spouting platitudes about how Turkey is a vital ally, etc.

No, under the AKP Turkey is an enemy, not an ally. Our allies are the rioters. They are the freedom fighters and we should be backing them explicitly.
