Has Asad stemmed the tide? For how long?

What does everyone think of recent media reports that Asad's collapse is less imminent? That he and his allies have stemmed the tide, for now at least?

I have no horse in that race. It is tempting to paraphrase Kissinger: if only both sides could lose...
