Terminology I don't understand :: Reader comments at Daniel Pipes

Mr. Pipes wrote, "As for Islamists, I do not feel superior to them; I respect them as a worthy enemy and am at war with them."

"Enemy" I understand. "Respect" and "worthy enemy" I don't.

If those are shorthand for "worth worrying about because of their hyperactive barbarism," OK. That's the same kind of practical "respect" one allows rabid dogs.
