But I think nationalism and nationhood should not be confused. Using the western frameworks to analyse radical islam/political Islam may not be very fruitful. But i do agree that there are some similarity between radical Islam and earlier secular revolutionaries (jacobins). These similarities can be seen in organisation and method of actions between the radical Islamists and some marxist geurrilla organisations If we look at Ed Husain's book "Islamistt", a former Islamist activist in the UK, we can notice this. I believe in areas, with ethnic problems, there is a possibility of emergence of a hybrid phenomenon.
