I Feel Your PainReader comment on item: An Author's Lament over Article Titles Submitted by Ira, Jan 21, 2017 at 16:29 I feel your pain, Daniel. (With apologies for inadvertently bringing to mind a Clinton.) You wrote, "But the Boston Herald's 'Optimism prevails as Trump steps in right direction' portrayed me as an enthusiast for Trump, which obviously I am not." As a fellow Trump doubter (although, as you know, I was a vigorous Trump supporter in the battle against Hillary), here is how I feel now: I am very optimistic, and MUCH, MUCH MORE OPTIMISTIC than I had imagined I would be. With Trump's cabinet and White House appointments, his signals about the next SCOTUS appointment, and his "rah rah conservative Republican" attitude (and his "anti-semitic" White House staff peppered with Jewish conservatives), I'm probably more optimistic today than I would have been with any of my favorite Republican primary candidates. Even Trump's variously maligned inauguration speech makes me feel optimistic. I think a comparison to JFK's inauguration speech would be helpful. JFK called on each of us to sacrifice our individual well being for the common good. In Star Trek speak, JFK was saying, "Join the Borg." Trump's point in yesterday's inauguration speech was that the governing class has enriched itself, and now, under him, the government will instead finally work for us. Like I said, I'm very optimistic and I am now willing to be called a Trump enthusiast. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
