South Asian Islamists, Chinese expansion & US/Russian interests

Reader comment on item: Middle Eastern Islamism Threatens Russia

Submitted by Richard Benkin (United States), Jul 24, 2017 at 14:50

Over the past few years, I have made the same point; namely that US and Russian interests are being threatened by Islamists. My focus for it is South Asia, and particularly, those areas involving my Baloch and Sindhi associates. The US and Russia can find common interests with the independence movements of these and other "Pakistani" and "Iranian" groups. Not only do the Islamists in the region threatened the interests of both nations; the United States and Russia also are looking at the prospect of China being the dominant outside influence in the region once its massive infrastructure project, CPEC, is completed.
